Fox Hollow Conservancy (FHC) is physically located in the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains in western North Carolina. Established in 2025 as a nonprofit corporation, its mission is to conserve, protect, and restore the forests on and around Cullowhee Mountain. FHC is affiliated with Fox Hollow Retreat (FHR), a single-member LLC founded in 2009.
We will be pursuing several activities, with an emphasis on sustainability and the environment.
Ultimately FHC will embark on long-term efforts generally categorized as conservation and community development. These include, but will not be limited to:
1. Hug trees
2. Steward the Cullowhee Mountain Forest Farm, Cecil Dills’ 200-acre conservancy
3. Buy local land
4. Conserve more acreage
5. Protect and monitor our forest and watershed
6. Restore the environment, one tree at a time
7. Consult on green building and sustainability, rural planning and the environment.
The first order of business is to raise funds to finance the effort.
Our first fundraising event will be Pickin’ for the Planet, a free concert that will raise money for FHC and Equinox Ranch (ER), another local nonprofit with which the founder of FHC is associated. ER was created about 5 years ago to serve America’s veterans suffering from PTSD and other maladies. Learn more at www.equinoxranch.org
FHR will be donating $50,000 to ER for the purpose of completing their Performing Arts Center. Pickin’ will be the inaugural event on September 6th, 2025. While the live concert will be by invitation only, it will be livestreamed and professionally videographed for ultimate posting on YouTube in an effort to raise additional funds for both organizations. Fundraising efforts will continue for the foreseeable future.
